The Gède are a family of spirits of the dead who preside over the regions of the dead. They hold the knowledge of the ancestors and are the guardians of children. They are trickster gods of derision. Azaka is the Rada divinity of farming and agriculture. He is sometimes known as PaPa Azaka. Lasirèn, the fishtailed spirit of the water, is the guardian of the springs and rivers. Associated with seduction and wealth, she is the consort of Agwe. Agwe is the consort of Lasirèn. He is the master of the sea and the lord of thunder, storms and earthquakes. He is the protector of fishermen. |
